Fridaythorpe lies on the A166 York to Bridlington road and, at more than 500 ft (150m) above sea level, it is the highest village on the Yorkshire Wolds. There are many panoramic views — the sea to the east, visible on a clear, bright day, or the rolling hills and dales all around.

The Wolds Way walk from Hessle to Filey Brigg passes through the village and a signpost on the village green next to the pond marks its halfway point.
Chalk buildings can still be seen — a barn near the pond and the original Manor House, which is now named the Farmer’s Arms, at the north end of the main street.
St Mary’s church, hidden at the top of the village close to the pond, is of Norman structure with beautiful features inside, such as the carved reredos, altar and Jacobean altar rail, the Norman font and arches. Outside, on the tower, there is a wooden clock with the inscription
“Time is short, eternity is long”. |
